Negotiating The Wall

Well, not a bad day, as days go these days.

First, I finally got paid for material already written. I simply and politely informed the client it would be impossible for me to make the double quota requested because payment had been so delayed I had to take on other paying work. An hour later I had my money. *sigh*

The double quota is out of the question at this point, and even the original quota is going to be a ball-buster since the deadline is Sunday. I'll do it because I promised, but you can bet I'm out looking for other work.

****

I received a request for an article on BDSM, which was fascinating to research. (I'm a sucker for research, what can I say.) I'm not sure I hit the target, since my piece was the basic 101 stuff, but I'm hoping the client is happy with it. Pay is very good. I might have to follow up with a series of articles, because the material is actually difficult to cover in an 800 word article. Lots of layers, like a parfait. Heh.

****

The local motorcycle magazine that accepted my Letter to the Motorcycle Dude was interested in another piece, so I followed the same format and did a letter regarding tattoos. If they accept it, I'll post the link when it goes live. It was a fun write.

I also jumped back into the joy of #fridayflash via Twitter, although it really is a lot of work and I have more than enough non-fic work to keep me busy this weekend. Still, I couldn't resist and "California Hillside" is up at Word Webbing. I'll just sneak away in between SSDI articles and sooth my brain with stellar flash fiction.

****

And last but not least, I submitted "Wickedly Smooth" to a publication and was promptly rejected. But, I ain't mad. It was actually one of the nicest rejections I've ever received, and after this comment I just had to submit again.

This is certainly bold strong work, but we don't feel that it's quite right for ***.

If this piece is an indication of the quality of your writing I look forward to the next time you grace my inbox with a submission. I remember the piece from #fridayflash. I love your work. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

Other than an acceptance, this was the next best thing.

****

Maybe there is a way to balance fiction and non-fiction without falling off the wall and bashing my brains in.
