the name-the-baby thread

OK, here's your chance to suggest names, seriously or sardonically, for the reverendbaby, who will be known provisionally as Gertie... after I told pastorg that I love old-fashioned names, like, that were popular in the early 20th century. I threw out Gertrude as an example, although I actually don't like that name terribly much, but Gertie stuck, so thus she shall be, but just between us bloggers.

Suggest away. If you have suggested some names elsewhere, feel free to re-comment here.

However, if you want to make a serious suggestion, keep in mind the following:

  • We like traditional but not overused names.

  • It must pass the President Test: Sure, the kid may not desire to be President, but the name shouldn't hold her back. "Tiffani" will never be President.

  • We tend not to be a nickname family.

  • Our surname is such that a name ending in "a" will tend toward the sing-songy. This eliminates a great many girl names--Hannah, Emma, etc.

  • Hannah and Emma are out anyway because, although nice, they are so.darn.popular.

  • We like family names, which doesn't really help you much... although you could suggest some of *your* family names, I suppose.

  • Biblical names rock.

  • Cre8tif spellings are an abomination unto the Lord.

  • As are apostrophes.
