blah blah random blah

It’s a busy time in the reverendhousehold. I fluctuate between being surly about the ginormous pile of stuff we have to do, and eerily calm in spite of it. You should see the pathetic excuse for a nursery we have. Ugly white walls, ghastly curtains left over from the previous occupant, a crib with stuff piled up on the mattress, a dresser with no baby clothes in it (those remain stuffed in a box in the basement), and random computer innards strewn about, left over from when R’s office was in that room…

Ohmygod we’re screwed.

So I better make this quick and get back to work.

We’re also dealing with precertification forms, end-of-the-year flexible spending account forms, 403B forms (finally! I’ve only worked there what, 2 1/2 years?), and all the usual bills n’ junk. R is at the grocery store at 10 p.m. on a Monday night. Family is here (yay!), and more are coming tomorrow night for the holiday. Good times, good times.

I had a rather tiring weekend. Friday night I woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. Grrr. Saturday night I stayed up too late and had to get up early to get to the church for a 14-hour day. Around hour 10 of that day I said “enough” and went home. The major afternoon activity was the CROP walk which is a major reverendfamily activity. C is named for R’s grandmother C who walked the 10K route in Houston into her 80s. C has ‘walked’ every year of her life (including the first year when she was getting over her cold/ear infection/RSV extravaganza).

Our local CROP walk is only about 4 miles, and I was planning to walk just a piece of it—I thought my bladder would be more of the limiting factor than my muscles!—but once I finished the short piece I felt good and kept going. Ended up going the whole route and felt fine at the time, but was actually almost delirious afterwards I was so tired. I took a bath and was in bed by 8:30. Slept about 12 hours. Thankfully I’m not stiff or sore today (although my pregnant waddle, er, swagger, is more pronounced).

Today I had lunch with a great friend from seminary, P. We met in Small City which is about 40 miles away and is a convenient midpoint between Suburb and the Mid-Sized City where he lives. We do this every six months or so and it is great. Our churches are similar, we are both associates, and we enjoy chewing the denominational fat. I really like having a good guy friend too. I had one several years ago but his spouse felt threatened by me (whatever) so that was the end of that. I still grieve that, because good friends are hard to find. It’s nice to have people in your life who, in the midst of prattling on about getting ready for the baby will say, “So are you thinking about your dad in the midst of that?” Way to get right to the heart of it.

In other news, we went to see the Harry Potter movie on Saturday. Enjoyable. A bit quick and choppy in the beginning, trying to get a lot of exposition out of the way, and the performances were a bit uneven, but overall did not disappoint. Ralph Fiennes was excellent as Dick Chen... I mean Voldemort.

Tomorrow I have my 36-week prenatal visit. After that I will start going weekly. I am thinking about taking C with me. When we took her to the sibling class at the hospital two weeks ago the nurse/trainer asked if the kids had gone with their mommies to hear the bab’s heartbeat, and we were the only ones who hadn’t done that. Oops. Obviously I missed a memo somewhere. I think she would get a kick out of it though.

Meh. That’s about all she wrote.
