friday five: creature comforts

Maybe it's the arrival of crisp October, my favorite month. Or maybe it's the fact that the divine miss m has been sick all week (and if the baby ain't happy, ain't nobody happy). Whatever the reason, my thoughts have been turning to cozy creature comforts--those activities and spaces that just make a person feel good. And so...

1. Comfort beverage
These days it's a little Baileys over crushed ice at the end of the day... I also found this stuff called Voyant Chai Cream that is "rum, fresh dutch cream, black tea and a distinctive blend of spices." Bought it on a whim and it's nice and warming.

Now that the weather is colder I may have to shift to hot chocolate.

2. Comfort chair
We have a chair-and-a-half with ottoman in our living room, which is the only room in the house I don't allow to get overrun with clutter--so it's always a peaceful place, assuming there's no cat hork on it. There's always a nice thick blanket draped over one arm which keeps the kitties from clawing normally, but is great for laps.

3. Comfort read
I enjoy poetry because I can read for as long or short as I have available. Also, a good magazine. Oprah is an occasional guilty pleasure.

4. Comfort television/DVD/music
TV: The West Wing on Bravo, Friends in syndication, pre-1998 Simpsons
DVD: Anything I've seen eleventy million times--Bull Durham, the Philadelphia Story, etc.
Music: Carrie Newcomer, David Wilcox

5. Comfort companion(s)
Besides the obvious answer of R, I would say ChaplainMom and the rest of the CGs. Also my cats, especially Fat Kitty. My girls are good company but are not good comfort companions right now--too busy, too crawly, too chatty.
