California is dropping in the ranking of verbal SAT scores and on its way down further, is my guess.

But please don't 'dis' us for our verbal SAT scores; we're drowning in a sea of non-English-speaking immigrants and long-term residents who speak substandard 'street' English. Our children learn from their peers; the language spoken by their peers is often substandard or broken. Only the children in the white enclaves hear standard English consistently enough for it to be truly their primary language--and that is undermined by MTV and IM and such.

No wonder our verbal SAT scores are in the basement!
