I'm discovering that it is not a zero-sum enterprise. The more I write here, the more I write offline. And when I'm not writing, I'm composing ideas, characters, etc., in my head. When I stop writing in my journal, it's a sure bet I've dried up in other arenas, too.

That's why I make myself write something, no matter how inconsequential, every day. It's as though the pathways from the gut and the brain through the shoulders, arms and fingers have to be kept linked up and active. Otherwise, I just putter around and waste time.

Anyway, that's how it works for me.
