My Lai 40 years ago today.

Before:

After:

Lieutenant Calley was just "following orders".

The first reports claimed that "128 Vietcong and 22 civilians" were killed in the village during a "fierce fire fight". A member of C Company wrote letters which revealed the truth of the massacre. 347 to 504 women, children, and old men were slaughtered.

Convicted of 22 murders and sentenced to life in prison, Calley was released from house arrest after only 3 ½ years.
