Power of Names

Have you noticed that the media vary in their use of the name of our most recently elected highest office holder?

Some refer to him as "Obama" or "Barack Obama" or "Senator Obama". (Or, "that one".)

Some, correctly, name him "President-Elect Obama" or "President-Elect Barack Obama".

Probably too many syllables in the correct appellations for the knuckle-draggers.

But seriously--a person is framed, or defined, by his naming. There is a subtle inclination to put President-Elect Obama in his place ("back of the bus, boy") by giving him a lesser title, or no title at all.

Remember W's penchant for folksy monikers.

(In case you doubt the power of naming, just try calling a person of color "boy".)
