Wild at work today, with some very satisfying results. I was able to put out several fires (metaphorically speaking) and actually managed to check off several of the items on the "hot" list of things to be done.

What astonishes me even more is that I didn't get an argument on any of them. I sent in documentation, written as clearly and definitively as I know how, and back came the affirmative answer: OK, do it. Love that response, since I'm primed and ready to leap into action.

A few things are still hanging over our heads; they've gone on the list for tomorrow.

Aside from the virtual fires, there are the actual wildfires burning again in southern California. The temperature at this moment is 104 degrees and the wind has been gusting in Ventura County (just a few miles from here) up to 50 miles per hour.

One of the fires started as spontaneous combustion. Spontaneous manure fires are fairly common in farm communities, often occurring during conditions of extreme heat. Today's temperatures of 100 degrees plus have had their effect.

It's nice and cool in here (OPAC) and I'm reluctant to get in my car (the silver oven on wheels) to go pick up my SO at the VA. If I didn't have to chauffeur him home, I'd be tempted to hang in here until the temperatures drop.

I just looked out my window, to see one of my employees on his bicycle, heading home. He has a substantial beard, gray now, though I remember when it was brown. I would think it would be too hot to have a beard in this weather.

Quick! Get out the longjohns. The temperature has plummeted to 102 degrees. Brrrrh!
