One Aspect of My Job

One of the things I most enjoy doing here at work is what you might call detective work.

For example, I got an email today from a customer's relative complaining about service. Terrific. Nowhere in the email was the customer's name or destination mentioned.

But, in the last paragraph, the writer mentions the name of the street she is concerned about and also the approximate time of day ("I have to be at work at 7:30," she writes, "and it takes me 20 minutes to get to the destination.")

She also tells me the supervisor is "Jose". We don't have a supervisor whose first name is Jose, so that was a dead end.

With these scanty hints, ultimately I was able to figure out the name of the customer, the destination, and the supervisor.

Now, the unpleasant part. I have to call or write to apologize for the source of her concern (even though it wasn't my fault)--and fix it, if I can.

Still, though, I enjoyed the detective part. Made these databases stand up and dance!
