In the Cool Cool Cool of the Morning

I always resolve to get up early on the weekends when the weather is hot in order to do some things that need doing in the coolth. Such as laundry (Washer and dryer are in a hot garage and I have to tote the stuff back and forth) and most especially watering the tomatoes and other tender plants.

But I so often weaken at 6 a.m., say the heck with it and go back to sleep.

Not today. Driven by the memory of yesterday's 100+ degree hot weather, I leaped out of bed (well, sort of), put the coffee on to brew, and went outside to water everything and hose down the brick walkways on the side of the house and the patio. I hope to keep it as cool as possible (hah), but at least the tomatoes won't wilt in the heat. I hope.

Tomatoes are starting to ripen now; the ones on the bottom are nearly ready to eat and I am keeping a sharp eye out for tomato/tobacco worms. Hornworms. Whatever they are. I found one already, and as we were sitting outside yesterday a little brown bird swooped down and plucked another one off, took it under a lawn chair, and gobbled it down. Thank you, little bird.

Misty is getting more and more feeble. Don't know how much longer she has. I felt terrible yesterday when I got home from a barbecue with friends, ready to join Misty on the rainbow bridge, but today feeling much better thank you. Resilient people of the world, bounce back! You have nothing to lose but your bad memories of pain and weakness.

Hunkering down later today in front of the A/C with a good book. It's going to be another scorcher. And don't even THINK about wildfires.

Hope you enjoy your Monday, July 4th.
