Cooling Off

Cooling off. Me, I mean. I came home so furious last night that I could have chewed nails and spit out the rust.

After hours and hours of work preparing for the post-Labor Day startup, I found out Friday afternoon that the head honcho changed his mind about how he wanted our units structured and starting Monday I have to tear it apart and do it all over again. Deadline for completion is Wednesday at noon. Nothing like last minute notification.

This is the third restructuring I'll have done in two months. Needless to say I seriously dislike working under "leadership" that is so concerned with smiling a lot, looking good, and getting the next promotion that it can't deal with the risk of making a decision.

My immediate boss tried to mitigate my fury by saying that perhaps he had misunderstood the earlier requirement to restructure. Not likely, though I understand his inclination to defend his boss. My boss is a quintessential nice guy.

I just wrote three more paragraphs (mercifully deleted) ranting and raving on in the same vein, but you get the idea. I came home so angry that I had trouble sleeping. Most unusual.

I've had some coffee and a quick bowl of oatmeal, and in the cool of the morning, I'm simmering down. I have to keep reminding myself that this is the last time I'm going to have to do this.

Next year at this time it will be someone else's problem.
