A Reality of Their Own

Perhaps I should have chosen as the title
SEPARATE BUT EQUAL SUPERIOR.

I'm beginning to perceive a kind of split reality in our culture, with very few (and much-beleaguered) crossovers.

--Evolution as the description of creation vs. Genesis-derived scenarios.

--Marriage as the right of all who love each other vs. a strictly defined one-man-one-woman arrangement.

--Reason and science are trumped by faith.

--Faith strictly defined by a book or a creed (the word of God) vs. faith as a path of learning, either as individuals or as a group.

--Men and women are equal partners vs. man as the pater familias to whom woman and children are submissive.

--Knowledge and learning vs. everything you need to know is in the Holy Scripture.

--Education is valued vs. anti-intellectualism, anti-elitism and ignorance the preferred positions.

--Exposure of children to a wide spectrum of ideas and influences vs. holding children apart (even home-schooling) to prevent contamination.

This rant was inspired by the slogan on the back of an F1 Ford pickup this morning, which said:

THE BIBLE SAYS IT
I BELIEVE IT
THAT SETTLES IT
