Prep for Tomorrow

It's a gorgeous clear sunny cool day in Southern California and the sounds of dinner preparation for tomorrow are heard in our land.

The good set of dishes have been brought out of storage and washed. The cranberry sauce is simmering on the stove. When the coast is clear, I'll mosey downstairs and make the pumpkin soup (all except for the last minute addition of half and half which I'll do tomorrow).

B is in manager mode, so I'm staying out from underfoot. I realized that I was annoying her with my chattering, so I grabbed my breakfast (a veggie burger) and my giant cup of coffee and fled upstairs to peace and quiet.

We've come to a good working arrangement. I understand when she's in manager-mode-don't-bother-me; she understands that when I remove myself I'm not pouting, but instead off to do my own thing, getting out of her way.

I know that I can be really annoying sometimes, and I try to remain aware of others' reactions. My secretary used to tell me, "Go to your room [office]" and I would realize that I needed to shut it down for a while. B does the same thing with attitude and facial expression, and I've learned to watch for the signs. No problem; there's always some solitary activity to enjoy.

It's a good arrangement, so far, and I'm grateful to have someone compatible (mostly), sharing my house. She will do a lovely job with dinner and friends; she really has the decorating and entertaining skills (she ran a B and B before moving to L.A.). I'm thankful to have an extrovert housemate.

Looking forward to tomorrow!
