My Trip to London

Plane lands early evening of Tuesday. We hope to have water and heat by then in Boston (a thermocouple died in the furnace causing water to freeze in the pipes. About 6 pipes cracked, including the one that feeds water to the furnace which blew out completely. We heard about this on Sunday. It may have happened sometime Thursday night or Friday. By the time we heard about it, it was blizzarding in Boston and could get no one to the house until the next day. Monday the handyman came over and waited for the gas company until 1 AM. Then he started trying to get the house warm. My tenants had already lost their geckos and tropical fish. Smokey is OK but VERY ANGRY. A plumber came yesterday but left in anger when we wouldn't let him do unnecessary work (he wanted to replace the whole furnace which neither the gas company nor our handyman thought necessary. The handyman has been there 24/7 since Monday, living on canned soup) Roto-Rooter is coming today, hopefully to get the water in the house running again. We have had to pay for an hotel for one set of our tenants and willk have to pay for the cleanup of their flat also. Technically, they should be carrying renters insurance on their personal property, but I don't know if they are. They may try to get it out of us. All in all, not a great situation in Boston.

We are here trying to get out an auction catalog for a vintage poster auction to take place in March in Dallas, and have stayed very close to home this trip. The rotten exchange rate also has something to do with that, The £ is worth almost $2, so we are going to the market to buy stuff on the street and being very frugal. We will be having dinner out with a friend on Saturday night in Greenwich and have tickets to see ACORN ANTIQUES, a musical based on a 70s TV show., Victoria Wood wrote it for Julie Walters. Wood will be substituting for Walters on Monday night, the first night we could get tickets for. It is in previews.

That's been our trip so far.

The winners of the copies of Dorien Grey's POPSICLE TREE are listed on http://www.reviewingtheevidence.com. The new contest, for 3 copies of Peter Moore Smith's psychological thriller LOS ANGELES is also listed there. Check out last week's reviews and enter the new contest which will remain on the site until about Jan 31.

You still have a few days to enter. I will be returning to the US on Feb 1. This contest will definitely and on Jan 31 at which time I will upload the new contest, so you have only a few more days to enter the drawing for one of three copies of LOS ANGELES.

You may forward this message to anyone or any board you think might find it appropriate but please, don't spam.
