When Miss H and LA Man were here the other night, they brought Carr's Assorted Biscuits for Cheese. I thought, lovely, I've had these, no surprises, what a nice complement to the brie and chevre. Little did I know.

My friends, I have discovered the British sweetmeal digestive biscuit. I plopped some cheese on a few crackers, all of which were neutral in flavor. So far, so good. Very normal cheese-and-crackers experience. Then I slathered a digestive biscuit with brie, and OMG, epiphany.

The biscuit is slightly sweet, just enough to offset any thoughts it is savory. It is subtle; it toys with the palate in a childlike tug-of-war with one's expectations. The second bite was better than the first. The only disappointment was that there were only three of these in a box of about 36 crackers. The smaller sweetmeal biscuit did the trick in a pinch, once the digestives were digesting.

My local market carries the British staple, McVities, but has been unable to get the plain digestives for 3 or 4 weeks. McVities outlets on the internet are also sold out.

Hey, McVities, if you're listening, get the lead out! If you sell such an addictive, delectable, healthy whole-grain morsel, you must meet demand! Ask Dexter, my food tantrums ain't pretty, and I'm just trying to avoid one. Take heed, and send me them tasty bikkies.

The Island Market hopes there will be some in the next shipment at the end of the week. Let us all cross our fingers so that Miss Scout doesn't go off the culinary deep end.

Sink the chi. Sink the chi. Sink the chi. And, breathe.
