2004-05-17 10:56 AM In the presence of genius Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Contemplative Read/Post Comments (0) This year is the 100th anniversary of Salvador Dali's birth, and I went to see an exhibit of his graphical works--prints, lithographs, pen and ink sketches, stuff like that. Pretty amazing. Yes, he became more about the Cult of Dali, especially after moving here (why am I not surprised?). Yes, he had a personal iconography that he used over and over in a deluge of minor works until he really became--at his worst--a hack. But at his best these melting clocks and stilt-legged mammals meant something to him, and through his work he was trying to communicate that to us. He was an Artist, dammit, with a Vision.
