Endurance. I believe the word has been pretty much co-opted to refer mainly to athletes and athletic pursuits, but I'd like to talk about the kind of endurance that applies more to us little folk, and that's the kind of endurance that gets us through a day, or a week, or a month, or a year simply by taking one step and one breath at a time, and taking some solace in the knowledge that time passes and with the passage of time circumstances change. Things do get better.

I don't think this type of endurance gets enough respect. It's not loud or flashy or emotional, it's not done with a lot of railing against the fates. In fact, this type of endurance is generally accompanied by the knowledge that there's no one to blame. Stuff just happens. Or if there is someone to blame, there's no revenge or justice at the other side. There's just getting on with living.

It takes a tremendous amount of strength and honor to endure. I'm not much good at it because I like to whine too much.

There's word #2. I'll try to pick up the pace.

In other news, I'm making progress on a story again. Yay!
