sjrozan I'm a writer, at work on my 11th book. This blog is a record of random and less-random thoughts. If you want to know more about me, check my website, linked here. I also had a blog going from spring through late fall 2004 about the publishing process for my 9th book, ABSENT FRIENDS. That blog's called "Progress" and you can find the link here. I won't make any more entries but I'm leaving it up in case anyone's interested; the process is more or less the same from book to book. |

2004-01-26 10:45 AM Flood and mud Big water main break down the street yesterday. Basement apartments and restaurant storerooms completely flooded out, 6 feet of water in them, everything ruined. Sheets of ice on the street from the water that was pumped out and froze. Half a dozen 150-year-old buildings now have Vacate orders stuck to their doors while the Building Dept. inspects them to see if they've been structurally undermined. One of those buildings is a B&B. This all happened at lunchtime, so the B&B guests were out doing lovely touristy things. Now they have to find somewhere else to sleep, everything they brought inaccessible for days. Me, my only problem is black water in the tap. I played basketball yesterday morning, had apparently been out of the shower about ten minutes when this happened. So I was lucky enough to have the luxury of a shower, while my neighbor has mud-ruined books, pictures, furniture. The next building to the six Vacated ones is a diner, and people were sitting having breakfast this morning when I went by. Half the block a disaster, the other half perfectly normal. Sic transit. Just thought I'd mention it.
