me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Sunday NY Times, or, where have I been?

I apologize for my absence from the blogoshpere for the last few days. I did have river and bird reports for you, but something came up: the City Section of the NY Times called Tuesday morning to ask if I would give them 1,000 words for this Sunday, due today, Thursday, mid-day. Well, that's a tight deadline, but what writer would say no to an offer of a first byline in the New York Times? So I've been researching and writing like crazy, with everything else -- and I mean, EVERYTHING -- on hold.

I finished the piece a few hours ago, and just heard from them: they like it and are planning to run it. In newspapers, of course, you don't count your column-inches before you see them, because you could get pushed off the page by breaking news. But if that doesn't happen, look for me in the City Section, ruminating on the subject of Iconic Crimes.

(If you're outside the 5 NYC boroughs, I believe you can read the City Section online.)

You're welcome to comment on my ruminations here.
