me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Addendum addendum

Squirrel renovations continue this morning. Contractor/resident was up, I'd like to say "with the sun," but the sun wasn't up. Rainy and foggy, but Squirrely was out of his massive nest as soon as he could see. It rained all night last night, and I guess he wasn't happy with the weathertightness of his structure. He made a few fast trips along the branches to gather more twigs. He rushed back to stuff them into the nest but he didn't stop to do any finishing work. Climbing out on a branch, he sat and thought for a minute, looked around. Then, powee! He leaped to the next tree, where a few leaves are still clinging to the ends of branches. He raced back and forth, biting off leaf-laden branches, running back and stuffing them inside, then charging back for more. Finally he disappeared into the nest, which shook and rumbled for awhile as though the whole thing were in a cartoon. Now all is quiet. Either that means he's on a meal break, searching out food in the rain; or he's curled up inside his now-watertight home, taking a well-earned snooze.
