me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Brief Squirrely sighting

Or maybe it was Squeeze -- hard to tell, seeing as how whoever it was popped out of the nest this morning, stood on a branch right in front of the woven branches (thus being hard to distinguish) and scratched furiously at his/her flank, then the other flank, then the chest. Then popped back in. I'm imagining the squirrel pillow-talk conversation:

"You're driving me crazy! Stop scratching! Or go outside if you have to do that. Don't come back until you're done!"

Meanwhile, it rained yesterday, but no new building has gone on. I'm beginning to think maybe the woven structure Squirrely worked so hard on after the east-side collapse isn't a windbreak, or a shingle-less roof, but a structural element anchoring the whole nest back to the tree.
