me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Castel Gandolfo

One of our last days in Italy we went to the Pope's summer residence at Castel Gandolfo, about forty minutes by train from Rome. Also a twenty minute walk uphill from the station; good thing we did all that training in Assisi, three or four walks a day uphill in both directions. (Everything in Assisi is uphill in both directions.) The gardens at Castel Gandolfo were opened to the public by Pope Francis after he decided he wasn't going to use the place, it being too ostentatious for him. Seeing these gardens was a highlight of the trip for me.
