I've lived in several parts of the country, but this is the only area where fireworks have their biggest sales for New Year's Eve. And even though it isn't full dark yet, the neighbors have begun setting them off. By midnight it will sound like we are under full-scale attack.

I've gotten pretty much used to sleeping (or almost-sleeping) through the noise. New Year's Eve was never a Big Deal in our house. We seldom went out, or even stayed up late.

My principle thought about the New Year is that, because of being house-restricted, I wasn't able to get the calendar I like at Office Depot, and thus have no calendar for 2006. For the time being, I shall trace off the boxes and print several, then put in the dates so I can keep track of appointments etc. I've got a 2006 pocket calendar, so there's at least one place where the appointments are written down.

I don't really believe in making New Year's Resolutions--if it's something that needs improvement, it should be started immediately. And not talked about. That way, if you don't publicize it, you won't feel foolish if (when) you "fall off the wagon."

So, the rest of my evening will be with a background of explosions. By the time I go to bed, I'll be used to the sounds.
