(These instructions apply to Gulf Coast residents only. People along the Atlantic coast can figure out appropriate directional adjustments for their orientation relative to the storm location.)

When there is a tropical "area of disturbance" in the Gulf of Mexico stand with your back to the Gulf and inhale. Then face the Gulf and exhale. If everybody does this enough additional air will be moved counter to the direction of the storm to send it back out of the Gulf of Mexico.
