Today has had sleeping as its main characteristic.

I didn't wake up till almost 8 AM, and then dozed off a bit later while watching TV. Having a monster cat half on you amplifies the sleep waves, plus it was raining, and rain is soporific.

Somehow I dozed off again in the afternoon. When I woke up it was (still) raining, and I was faced with the problem of the paper and mail being 150 ft. each way from the house. I solved it by going to Popeye's for takeout. On the way I maneuvered the car so I could get the mail and paper out of their respective boxes.

The rain, although it was gentle, went on for most of the day and the streets were flooded to a greater or lesser degree. My section of street is high, compared to the far end. And the street connecting to the main road (the one that had house guts piled ten feet high along the curbs after Katrina) was developing significant water.

Drainage is in poor shape. There is so much still to be done. The ditches on my street still have a lot of stuff in them. By my house it's telephone cables and small limbs etc. The ironic part is that the ditches had just been cleaned in July 2005. I guess if they hadn't, there would have been a bit more flooding in my area.

So, today was icky and practically a total loss--unless you count sleeping half the day as productive.

I'm pretty sure I heard the weather person say this wet front would have passed through by tomorrow morning. I surely hope so.
