I realized about halfway through the day that it was supposed to be unlucky. So far it hasn't been, but an IUL precludes much of anything out of the ordinary.

Of course, the day isn't over yet, at least in my time zone.

Faithful Watchcat was at her post on the fence again. And she had no doubt been successful in keeping a dog out of the yard. The dog was on a leash, with a human at the other end, so I really doubt the dog would have tried to go into the yard. But Lady can pretend to have intimidated potential intruders.

I should probably tentatively plan to do yard work in the morning tomorrow, since showers are forecast for some time in the day. I also have to get stamps so I can mail a book off to a friend in Ohio.

A former Xavier colleague, who now teaches in Maryland, brought some of her students to New Orleans for spring break, just as she did last year. It is, of course, a learning experience. This year she has a video about it. If you use that link it will get you to the university's home page. And there you will find the link to the New Orleans expedition.

On the way home today I noticed that the modular house that had been installed by the marshes now has a sign on it saying "Open House." Looks to me like they're hoping to get more business from the owners of blown-away camps. Good luck to them.

Also on the way home, in the first part of the drive, I actually ran into a traffic slowdown! Somebody's car had stalled or broken down going up the High Rise. That makes for "interesting" Friday afternoon traffic. But very slow traffic on the High Rise used to be the norm. As I told the traffic guy when I called in the slowdown "Katrina was devastating, but I sure don't miss the pre-K traffic." I think everyone is agreed on that.

When I finally got to the stalled car I saw a Military Police car handling the problem, with three guys in fatigues standing around. It's the National Guard, who is helping out with the cop shortage. Anothher time I saw them working traffic they had HumVee in camo paint.

Only four hours to go before I can (metaphorically) give Friday the Thirteenth the finger.
