Topic: the raccoon that comes for food.

Yesterday evening I heard some metal-garbage-can-rolling-on-patio noises, looked out, and spotted our little (he(?) isn't really so little) friend. I heard a little more can-moving noise, and then, as far as I was concerned, that was that. He'd given, frustrated by the bungee cord holding the lid firmly in place.

This morning I went to pick up the garbage can and put it back where it's supposed to be when I saw what looked like pieces of a cat food bag on the sidewalk. I was trying to remember what kind of cat food was in there. When I'd gotten it back in place, I figured I'd shake out some of the food for the n4eighborhood cats, one of which had started up my driveway to come play with Lady (and maybe cadge some food.)

The bag of food was torn open. Obviously, somehow the raccoon got into the can, eaten, then got out of the can. The bungee cord was still in place, sort of doubled over for extra tension, just as I'd left it.

How did he do that?
