"Annual" Day

Yes, one of those days that help keep one healthy. There was the procedure that Medicare pays for only once every two years. (They pay for annual mammograms, however.) And then a stop at the on-site lab to leave samples of various fluids. The stick for the blood work started to "leak" so I ended up with a small pressure wrap.

The parking lot was being redone somehow, and at least a third of the parking spaces were lost. I followed someone leaving the building and grabbed her spot as soon as she got out of it. But I had a wait of only 5 minutes from my appointment time, and was done with everything in less than an hour.

Since Arby's was on the way, I stopped there for lunch and spotted someone who looked vaguely familiar. She stared at me, and both of us said "Don't I know you from somewhere?" It was church, and we ended up eating together and talking almost non-stop. That lunch lasted a bit more than 2 hours.

Stopped at the bank to get cash money to pay the kids coming on Saturday to muck around my yard. These are boys I've known since they were born, and who were swimming students for many years. They are 16 and 18 and both drive! (And, I guess, have a car to use.) It had better not rain!!

Once I'd finished the extended lunch I stopped at PJ's, just as the heavens let loose. I wasn't quite in the mmood for the current geek book, so I settled in with Tess Gerritsen's Harvest. It's another one that is really hard to put down. It is so nice that there is almost nothing of value or interest on TV! In other words, nothing to distract me from reading.

I looked out the window this morning and discovered my Star of Texas taller than ever and full of bright red flowers. The flowers look a lot like hibiscus, but the plant is moderately cold-hardy. It has five part leaves that look somewhat like cannibis. When it is not blooming it can surprise someone who doesn't look too carefully.

When I was at the dig in Romania the adjacent fields had hemp plants. I could see the similarity in the leaves.

Tomorrow is another at-home, and I MUST catch up on the household bookkeeping. It's really easy to get behind when most of my regular bills are auto-debit.

The afternoon rain cooled it down a bit, but upped the humidiity. You can't win.
