Tess Gerritsen has something interesting about fat.

I've read two of her books (so far) and enjoyed them both thoroughly. Her blog is also interesting.

Today my side yard went under attack. The guys came by at 8:30 and pulled and dumped and pulled and dumped for two hours. And they made significant progress. They informed me that the pond-that-was-once-a pool has at least two residents--a large frog and a large turtle. I was pretty sure about the frog, based on the evening concerts I hear from back there.

I spent about half an hour looking for the bag that I KNEW had the Frontline--several packages of it. I finally found it in the bag where I thought it was. There was also kitty heartguard, which came with the cats, but which I don't use. Obviously I didn't look closely enough the first two or three times I handled that bag. Frontline is not cheap.

So, the next chore was to frontline the cats. Fabian was no problem--he's not particularly suspicious. I managed to grab Lady, but by then CC knew something was up and it took me a lot longer to catch her. Also, she doesn't wear a collar, which makes it a bit harder to hold her with one hand.

With luck, the fleas will give up on the cats. I spray the carpet frequently, and I also have a powder to use before vacuuming. (I'm going to have to count the letters in "vacuum"--I've always regarded it as a four-letter word, like "iron" and "cook.")

Current reading? From Ape to Angel is an "informal" history of anthropology written in 1958. It's interesting, and has added to my thinking about gender.

Also reading Laura Joh Rowland's Shinju, as I mentioned before. I think it's her first one, and I may have read it quite a while ago, but nothing about it seems familiar.

I shall probably continue reading it this evening as I watch TV.
