until the next holiday. August is devoid of them, although that's the month with VJ Day. And the first time an atomic bomb was used as a weapon. The second time came a few days later. Fortunately, we (as a world) have managed to make it through almost 62 years without using that particular bit of nastiness again.

It was a work day for me, and I am finishing up boxes like mad. I've already done the hard work.

In addition to the six boxes I know about in the next collection Susan found several more bits and pieces for it.

Unfortunately, I won't be quite finished with the current one until some photo pages arrive. Fortunately, the last time I needed photo pages I copied the relevant pages from the catalog, so I just took that information upstairs to the secretary and she ordered the stuff today.

I lucked out weatherwise and missed the rain almost completely. I did go through an area having a light shower on the way home, but that was all. (The rain while I was inside doesn't count.)

New Orleans has people arriving like mad--it's the Essence Festival--a long weekend of music, empowerment seminars, music, shopping, music, partying, and all that other good stuff. Last year they reluctantly took it to Houston (I think) but this year they are glad to be "back."

And speaking of backs, mine didn't bother me AT ALL today. I didn't realize how much it was bothering me till it stopped.

This evening's news had a feature about air travel problems. Oh joy. Just as I'm about to fly somewhere--AND have a connection at Dulles--one of the worst airports for delays.

Well, I'm not on any strict time schedule. If I get delayed, I get delayed. If they offer me a sufficient $$ incentive to be bumped, I'll take it.

It's not like my other trips where there's a string of connections. I'll have my cell phone with me for calling my hosts if there's a delay. (Note to self--don't forget a charging cord.)

The flight(s) to Kenya (in Dec. '05) were "interesting." I bounced to Memphis, then to Detroit. The problem came in Detroit where it was snowing hard, and the plane took off almost two hours late, because it needed to be de-iced. It got to Amsterdam so close to the departure for the Nairobi flight that they had the electric carts waiting for the dozen or so passengers who needed to get that flight. They sped through the airport and I was the last person to board. They were taxiing before I was totally settled in my seat.

I will not have this problem going to Rochester.

My pet sitter just called to confirm that she will indeed come to visit with and feed my beasts. She also brings in mail, puts out trash, etc.

And after chatting with her I lost whatever train of thought I had.

How many days till 1/20/09?
