Notice I didn't say "exciting." The busy is grading. Most of the students finished well before the deadline--I'm anxious to see if that was because they really knew the stuff or because they were clueless and figured they had a one in four chance if they just guessed.

One interesting thing--as I have in the past I put some map questions on the exam--questions like "The Tigris River is roughly [north, south, east, west] of the Nile." Several students had never done that sort of thinking. I asked them in what direction Baton Rouge lay, and for some of them compass directions had no meaning. I don't recall running into this before. One more thing to work on during the semester--in my classes they don't just learn a bunch of names of who ran things.

I skipped Newcomb today--I'm still sore from a couple of other days this past week when I ended up with longer walks than my body likes. Instead I headed for home and a nap--which lasted most of the afternoon. I had been giving serious thought to getting my feet done this afternoon, but I woke up too late for that.

In addition to grading, I have to find my India notes and go over them so that Monday's lecture makes sense. My current geek book is about the late 19th and twentieth century discoveries of ancient Indian civilizations. It's written more for a public audience, as opposed to a scholarly one. However, it does have copious footnotes. It's not too common to find something that reads interestingly and yet adheres to scholarly "rules."

I think we'll be having some rain over the weekend with Jerome--currently just Tropical Depression 10. That's a great excuse for not doing yard work. However, it doesn't serve as an excue for indoor "ought-to" tasks.

September is almost over--where has it gone?
