The groan is not for the grading itself, but for the absolutely outstanding lack of comprehension apparent in too many of the exams. Multiple guess is one thing, but being asked to remember a set of causes for the decline of the Western Roman Empire is apparently unrealistic. Even when said causes were listed on the board. I make sure that everything I ask about in essay questions has been covered in lecture. Of course, you have to get to class on time and listen and notes . . . (or at least copy stuff from the board.)

I got halfway through the essay questions this afternoon. I shall attempt to finish them this evening. Then tomorrow I can tackle the paperlets assigned a while back which, because of the ear and other things, I have not gotten around to.

Heaven help these kids if the Saints don't do well tomorrow--I plan on grading while I watch the game.

My monster cat pushed his way into the "office" and is on the double papsan, on top of the cushion, three afghans, a folded chenille bedspread, and a sweater. He's on his back and looking like he is in cat heaven. The little cat (Lady) is curled up on the rug. I guess it's more comfortable than the outdoors, especially now that it's gotten a bit "brisk."

And that's about it for a mind-bogglingly exciting Saturday.
