Are you as sick of what has become an endless campaign as I am?

Do you realize that all this hoopla and money-spending is going on, and WE DO NOT EVEN VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENT!!!

Think about it--the President is elected by the Electoral College, and that's what we will ultimately vote for in November. A slate of "electors" based on the total Congressional representation of each state will sit down and cast their full pocket of votes for one person--even if that person received only 50.0001% of the "popular" vote in that state.

I'm not even sure we actually vote for candidates in the primary races, but merely elect representatives to the party nominating conventions--which will consume the air and video waves for the better part of the summer, squeezed in there with the Olympics.

And the so-called Nominating Conventions are no longer the place where there are multiple votes to select the party nominee, interspersed with back-room wheeling and dealing.

Everything is now all decided beforehand.

So why is all this money being spent on campaigning?

And why have we Americans not spoken up for direct election of our nation's leader? Most other countries with elected leaders have direct elections--not this indirect stuff which was originally supposed to protect the Founding Fathers and their ilk from "rule of the mob."

Just think of what the campaigning $$$ could do in providing better medical care availability, housing, etc. etc. & so forth.

Enough rant for today.
