The electrician arrived just before 8 AM. Fortunately, I had planned for an early arrival. My job was predictible in length, and not very long.

He was gone by 9 AM, heading for another job halfway to the other end of the parish.

This is the second time he's done the kitchen light. The last time was quite a few years ago and he was in his teens. We've used his father's services many times in the last 30 or so years. I learned that his father is about to retire and his older brother is taking over the business, with him as his helper.

That's good--the family has a reputation for reliable work.

Emma stopped by briefly this morning. I hadn't seen her for a couple of days. She was in the company of TomTom. Since she is not That Kind of Girl they are no doubt hunting buddies. Anyway, Emma sleeps with the dog next door, according to the dog's owner.

No yard work today--it was a bit chilly for that. And--I wanted to get some more geek reading done at PJ's.

Currently reading the book about the three Byzantine queens. I got through the first part this afternoon. It was a general history of the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire, with a fair amount of emphasis on the iconoclasm issue as well as the impact of the rise of Islam. It gave me a much clearer picture of that history. I do hope I teach again, because what I read today will get integrated into my ERE lectures. Currently, they focus mostly on the area itself, without some of the more subtle connections politically and religiously.

With the background established, the book will now get into personalities involved, and how the women came to be Empress.

Tonight is going to be cold again--in fact there might even be a bit of frost. Brrr. And then tomorrow it will get up to about 70 or so.

So, today would have been another IUD except that once again I have decent light in the kitchen.
