Today was veterinarian day. My appointment was roughly 0730, and about 0715 they called as they got off the interstate.

I had carefully blocked off the exits so that I would be able to catch the cats.

Rosie (the vet's wife and assistant) came in to give me a hand taking the cats to the van (mobile office). She got Fabian, and was doing fine carrying him out when he started peeing. He mostly missed her, but left a trail on the porch floor.

While he was out there I captured Lady, put her in a crate and took her to the van. When it was time for Fabian to come back in, Rosie brought him. However, I had not blocked off the front porch and CC went out through the "exit" at about 20 mph. The vet looked at her and how quickly she had disappeared and concluded that she would not be a patient today.

They have a fair number of clients at this end of the parish, and this afternoon Rosie called to tell me that on Wednesday they would be in the area late in the afternoon. So CC will get her visit after all. And I shall be very sneaky about getting her into the crate.

I've been overestimating Fabian's bulk--I figured he was up to about 25 lbs, but he weighed in at about 19. He's still a huge cat.

Lady weighed 8 lbs. CC isn't that much larger, so Fabian still outweighs the two girls together.

This vet used to live at this end of the parish. But Katrina flooded their house badly. He used to do surgeries at a clinic in eastern New Orleans. Katrina explains about that.

So, he and his wife (their kids are either in college or out on their own) moved to the western end of the parish, and he divides his time between east and west. Having a veterinarian who makes house calls is a big advantage.

So--my morning was spent chasing cats around. And my afternoon was as usual--reading at PJ's.

Now I'm trying to figure out the rest of the week. I guess I'll go in briefly on Wednesday--leaving in time to catch the cat for the vet appointment. Tomorrow I'll get the inventories typed and do some more yard and/or house work. The humidity and temps have been on the low side, and that gives me more interest in doing the work. Not a lot, but some.
