Tulane shut down this afternoon until next Thursday. Of course, Labor Day is in the middle.

We spent the afternoon battening down the hatches, so to speak.

There is a lovely tall bookcase with glass doors that holds some of the library of Josephine Louise Newcomb--the benfactrix of Sophie Newcomb College.

They got wet during Katrina, but the remediation people got them back in shape.

At any rate, the librarian donned her white cotton gloves (symbol of an archivist) and carefully packed them in boxes, which will be put in a high plaace, such as upstairs.

The last thing that will has to be done today is the covering of the stacks with plastic--which is already in place on top of every bookcase.

And then all of us will be at home, crossing fingers. I suggested the "inhale from the north, exhale to the south" to keep it away, or at least steer it elsewhere.

The 6 pm weather looked promising--the predicted landfall is now west of New Orleans. There's a lot of time left, though, and one can never truly predict what might happen.

Tomorrow will be a busy one for me--I responded to a call for help at the Humane Society where I got my girls. I couldn't take a boarder, but I am more than willing to transport animals to temporary homes. So far, there will be a pair of labs tomorrow afternoon. My little sport ute will be ideal for that job. (I guess I'd better get some of the junk out first.)

After supper I headed to WalMart to get some stuff--mainly critter food.

I walked in and there was a HUGE stack of 24-bottle packs of water. There was also a very long line at the Pharmacy window--guess people are getting almost-out prescriptions refilled. I use Walgreen's, which means that ANY Walgreen's can refill my stuff. Oh the magic of computers!

I got my stuff, then headed home. Before the end of the weekend I'll top off my gas tank, just in case.

And the Saints are playing a pre-season game tonight. Must go and watch that.
