Asthmatic Cat?

Lady has been coughing like she had "a frog in her throat." Today I figured was a good one to take her to a vet.

I've been using Mobile Vet for immunizations, but he has a) moved to the other end of the parish (his house was badly flooded by Katrina) and b) he's reducing his work load.

So I went to the vet nearest us. I'd been to him once before, when he had weekend call duty, and I liked him.

He now has a partner who is quite nice, and a very well-run office.

Lady got a thorough examination (naturally, she didn't cough at all) and he concluded that she might have asthma or something else. In either case, a cortisone shot was indicated, and so that was done. (I shall take CC in there soon for her annual shots, which she ran away from a couple of months ago.)

Lady seems much perkier and probably won't come near me for several days. But she and CC were off exploring together this afternoon, and my neighbor's cat had joined them.

I started reading James Patterson's Fourth of July, a Women's Murder Club mystery, and had a hard time putting it down. (It had been in today's mail.) I'll keep on reading it this evening.

One of the shortcut streets I use going to work had a big tree across it. Past tense is correct--the middle part (on the road) had been sawed out and removed. I wonder whether the parish did it or whether local good ol' boys took care of the problem themselves. Either way, that street is now clear sailing for the next time I head in to work.

I slept so well last night--I had the fan on low, and there was no generator noise to disturb me.

Before the storm I made sure my refrigerator freezer was packed tight with food and with bottles 2/3 filled with water. I think I opened the refrigerator door just once, and the freezer door not at all. The Lean Pocket breakfast bar I zapped this morning tasted just fine. (I need to move those water bottles to the big freezer in the garage to make room for more food.)

When I went out this late afternoon for an Arby supper I stopped at the Walgreen's on the way home. Although it costs a bunch more there, they have canned cat food, and the extra cost is probably countered by the gas I didn't use going out to WalMart--whose post-storm hours are considerably shorter.

The Saints have their season opener this coming Sunday. And Tulane University has a game in the Dome Saturday afternoon. On top of that, LSU is trying to have their opener in the Superdome Saturday night. Their home field is a mess.

I'm betting New Orleans can pull it off. The Dome was NOT used as a shelter this time, so it is in fine shape. The logistical problems revolve around staffing and getting food etc. in.

I'm betting my little Lady cat will not have forgiven me enough tonight that she'll want to cuddle.
