. . . you're getting on in years when the new President is the same age as your oldest kid!

And that kid started school the first year that my parish (county) had 1-12 Freedom of Choice. One child took advantage of that at my daughter's school--which was in easy walking distance of an African-American neighborhood. (There may have been others, but I didn't spot them.)

And, for those who wonder what Freedom of Choice was--

Parents could choose which school they wanted their children to attend. I would guess that 99.9% of those who applied were African-Americans electing to go to the nearest school--which was white.

Slidell had no incidents during the years of school integration, which is something to be proud of.

Two churches did get torched, but it turned out that this was totally unrelated to the school integration issue. (This information came from an interview with a black teacher who--at the time of the interview--was a School Board member.)

I guess we're growing up, as a nation.
