This morning Janice showed up a bit after 7 AM. Spot was present, but had not tested the wire thing on the patio.

But Janice had sardines, and Spot was definitely interested in those.

Bottom line, he is a very cautious cat, and it was about an hour before he relaxed enough that she could get him into the carrier. He thought the sardines were pretty tasty, but he wasn't going into that "thing" to get more.

Semi-wrapping him in a towel didn't work either--his hind legs weren't wrapped, so he used them to brace himself.

As a last resort she tried a very sturdy beach towel, and much to our surprise, it worked. By now he has probably met the nice doctor who is making him sleepy.

Neither Janice nor I got scratched or bitten in this activity. Spot is really mellowing out. I'll have to get some Special Kitty for his supper. (And, of course, for CC's also.)

And now, I guess, I should figure out what needs doing today--and how badly it may or may not need the doing.
