Weatherwise, it threatened rain this morning, then came through on the threat in the latter part of the afternoon.

The parades paraded, and now the public "action" has moved to the French Quarter, where one can see just about anything walking the streets.

The balls are not for the hoi polloi, but they generally show (on TV) the meeting of the two major Courts (Rex and Comus) at midnight.

And at midnight the police send patrol cars down the French Quarter streets, announcing the end of the party.

Of course there are always some who do not stop partying, and they get a night's lodging for free at the local hoosegow.

I made a quick run to WalMart early this afternoon and, judging by the actions of the cats, forgot to replenish their crunchies. I think they'll survive the evening. I'll take care of the matter tomorrow. Maybe if I put down a handful of their ordinary dry food in a diffferent place they'll be fooled. NOT. Shall we try for placated? In your dreams.

They are a lot of companionship--they're entitled to being finicky. (Occassionally.)

Weather should be a bit better tomorrow.

My trash man came by today to pick up as many bags from his Tuesday customers as will fit in his trailer. Because of the holiday, the "sanitary landfill" (aka dump) was closed. But this way the hauler gets a head start, although I don't think Wednesday is a regular pickup day.

With Mardi Gras over (at midnight) I guess we can settle down to the more important aspects of life--such as whether the Hornets (basketball team) are going to have a post-season. I don't particularly follow pro basketball--too many games to keep track of, unlike the NFL where the teams play just once a week.

Weather is sounding a bit stormier at the moment. That's good--it will keep down (somewhat) the number of drunks running around in the Quarter.

Tomorrow it's back to the real world--no more daily/nightly parades til next year.
