And a productive day it was. The archivist trundled away the cart with the three cartons of alumnae records.

And then she brought me another cart with another batch of cartons holding more alumnae office materials--all waiting to be processed.

I generally eat lunch (brought in a sack/lunchbag) in the building lobby.

Today I sort of had company. A campus cop came in to cool off and we got to chatting. As a Tulane employee he gets to take one course per semester for free. He's working towards his master's degree at the moment.

He also attended Dillard, where I taught for a couple of years. He wasn't aware that the Social Sciences department chair (a really sharp woman) had been a participant in desegregating the city bus system back in the 60s. She was in high school at the time, and I can just picture her and a girlfriend flouncing up the bus steps and plopping down right up front.

She told me there were some dirty looks, but nothing overt.

And then it was back to work time, until I spotted some dark clouds to the east.

I decided it was time to head back home before getting caught in what might be heavy rain.

My timing was good--there was just a small stretch where it was sprinkling lightly

(Tomorrow I MUST replace that one wiper with the torn rubber section.)

And- - - - the mail had a book with a pink cover and a picture of a real white-trash female.

It's YD's latest, and I hope I can stay awake long enough to read the whole thing tonight.

Not only did one of the copies I'd preordered arrive, but I had a call from the bookstore in the Handicapped Hostile mall saying it was in there also. I guess tomorrow I'll tackle making the trek from the parking lot to the store--with no place to sit down along the way.

Back to the den now to watch the news and find out if the world is still turning.

(And I feel incredibly sad about today being the last time the U.S. plans to take itself into space. It is quite likely a sign of a declining civilization.)
