Weather today was just as advertised.

I didn't do much of anything, other than a quickie swing through WalMart.

Even though it doesn't have AC, my den was quite comfortable and I got in a bit of an afternoon nap.

The cats showed their intelligence and stayed in the shady places around the house. Under the car is currently a popular spot. It also allows for a good view of the "territory."

Next week will be mostly at home--it's move-in time at Tulane.

This evening's supper was mostly leftovers from last night. Both of us went off with go-plates.

And--I am watching the reports on Irene. I do hope she loses the worst of her punch before she gets to the highly populated areas of New Jersey, New York, etc.

I worked in NYC two summers, and there was a hurricane warning during one of them.

My commute involved the train to Jersey City (I think) then the ferry across the river to NYC. (The building where I worked is/was within a mile of 9/11)

The oncoming storm day we were let off work early, and because the ferries weren't running, I had to take the tube that went under the river to get to the New Jersey side. I MUCH preferred the ferry--unless the weather was bad. I guess the trains had altered their schedules to accomodate the early returnees.

That was quite a while ago--the mid-fifties.

And it seems really strange to be sitting here in Louisiana, watching tropical storm reports, and knowing that they do not involve any areas near me. (At least this time they don't.)

Time now for the evening TV mind candy.
