susan sonnen thoughts on reading and writing, but not arithmetic 2014-10-30 3:32 PM On What is Poetry Previous Entry :: Next Entry |
Perhaps I am naive when it comes to poetry. I prefer that it is simple and clear. More than that, though, I believe that no one has the right to declare what is and is not poetry. Poetry is individual. If not individual, then meaningless. So those who declare that such and such form is not poetry or that so and so is a lousy poet, I reply, no. The golden leaves outside my window are poetry. The birdsong I just heard is poetry. Death is poetry. There is nothing that is not poetry. You choose yours and I will choose mine. There is room for all. |
