on Miss Flannery

Mood:
So-So

I am now in love with Flannery O'Connor. Fear not, Miss Dickinson, no one can ever take your place, but dear Flannery has now joined our circle. Actually, I suppose that her entry has made the circle. I have realized how similar my early writings are to Miss O'Connor's. I stopped that writing for fear of being too grotesque. No more. Forward!

And here is a poem that fell out of my heart on this Valentine's Day:

(in regard to the photo of Flannery O'Connor on the outdoor steps with a peacock at her feet)

Why Had I Never Noticed the Peacock Before?

Standing right there
To the side
Beneath

Her gaze even following it

All I saw
Was her face
The glasses
And the crutches

Her stance
Her expression

Self-assured
Strong
Beautiful
