The song that just popped up is Heavy Metal (Taking A Ride), from the soundtrack to the movie of mostly the same name. Don Felder wrote this song, and for some reason my mind drifted back to a recent and shattering revelation from my father: he likes the Eagles.

Now I recall, dimly, him making references to that band in the past that implied greater-than-casual acquaintance. I probably assumed he'd picked up the information innocently, while devoting his musical attention to jazz, Dylan, and the Kingston Trio, and the Beatles. All that was understandable, but the fucking Eagles? Christ.

That said, the song mentioned above is quite good, whereas nothing I've heard from the Eagles as a collective ever convinced me of much.
