Working through the Day

All right! I got some good work done on Rangergirl today, writing about 2700 new words, and doing a lot of nipping, tucking, and suturing to make that scene fit (I hope seamlessly) into the existing fabric of the novel. That's the big new scene taken care of, and everything else is smaller, lots of little additions and deletions and revisions. I'm happy with what I accomplished today.

What else? I did some full-on writing avoidance behavior early on, cleaning my desk, filing stuff, washing dishes, even sorting my business receipts for the year to date. I listened to some David Sedaris, which indirectly gave me an idea on how to make a character in Rangergirl a bit more sympathetic (when I'm in full-on creative mode, everything goes into the mental hopper). I went down to Lakeshore to deposit my paycheck and have some lunch and do some shopping, and seemingly everyone I encountered was depressed about the election, complaining or moping or bitching or seething. I was, luckily, completely absorbed in thoughts about my novel, so I was less depressed than everyone else... three cheers for absorbing fictional worlds.

We watched the first couple of episodes of season 3 of The West Wing tonight. It's still good.

I'm listening to good music. Reading good art. Trying to keep perspective.
