Sound the trumpets! My novelette "Dream Engine" -- one of the best things I've ever written, I think -- was just accepted by Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show. This is good. The story is also going to be in my collection next year, and the editor of the Medicine Show is kindly waiving their usual year of exclusivity.

Soon you'll all get to read about one of my favorite characters, Howlaa Moor (reluctant agent for the kleptocratic government of Nexington-on-Axis, the city at the center of everything), and zir assistant/partner/jailer, the disembodied and opinionated Wisp. This is the same setting I'm thinking of revisiting in a science fiction YA, which would feature Howlaa and Wisp as secondary characters. I'm so happy.

"Dream Engine" should be in the August issue. Which means I'll get payment in time to use the money for my quarterly estimated taxes in September. I love it when things work out that way.
