Days Off and On

Yesterday was my day off, though it's increasingly laughable to use that nomenclature -- I worked from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., barely stopping to eat, so there wasn't much "off" about it. Freelance work in the morning, then various administrivia and household chores and errands and such for the rest of the day. I didn't even touch my copyedits to Poison Sleep, which landed on my doorstep yesterday afternoon, nor did I do layout on the next issue of Flytrap, which I'd really like to finish before the sudden arrival of a baby makes such work implausible if not impossible. My to-do list is mighty and long, but I knocked a few hunks out of it yesterday, at least. I soldier on.

Have I mentioned I'll be at Conjecture at the end of the month? September 28-30 in San Diego. I will certainly be on some panels, and, I hope, doing a reading. I said I was willing to do three panels over the course of the weekend. They asked if I'd be willing to do six. I think we might have compromised on four, but we'll see what my schedule says when it arrives. If I could get away with it, I'd just do a reading, but panels are the lifesblood of conventions. I don't mind doing panels, really, I just don't enjoy them the way I enjoy readings, and I don't think I'm particularly good panelist. Anyway, it's right around the time my novel comes out, and the weekend of my anniversary (the two actually coincide), and also probably the only airplane trip we're likely to take for a while, what with impending parenthood. Should be fun.
