Writer Jes Battis has a good review of Blood Engines (good in that it's generally positive, good in that it points out some reasonable flaws and discusses the book intelligently).

I barely remember writing that book, but I'm glad people are still reading it!

Oh crap Wiscon is this weekend! Time sure is zip-zooming by of late. We lucked into a Governor's Club room at the last minute, thanks to some kind friends who are transferring their reservation to us. Free boozes! We should have our new issue of Flytrap there. And our baby. And our incomparable selves.

I’m so proud of the California Supreme Court for ruling gay marriage constitutionally-protected (and more quietly, but just as importantly, extending protection against discrimination for reasons of sexual orientation). Such a shock, given the political makeup of the court, too. Just when I'm ready to give up on humanity, something like this happens, and I think, well, maybe I won't become a world-destroying supervillain just yet....

Fantastic weekend. More swim lessons for River on Saturday (he figured out kicking! He kicked like crazy!), then beer and pizza at Jupiter afterward (River likes drinking water from grown-up glasses, and it was tough to make him understand that Beer Is Not For Babies). Sunday we had a fabulous brunch over at Dan and Nadya's, where our respective babies eyed one another suspiciously. Susan was there, too, and we had mimosas, Danish, fruit salad, fresh coffee, an awesome strata made with rosemary focaccia, and hours of backyard chit-chat. A very fine day.
